Five Favorites: The Breastfeeding Edition {Vol. 18}

As some of you may know and others of you might be thinking "what the heck?", this past week was World Breastfeeding Week. It's basically a week to promote breastfeeding around the world and offer mamas support where needed and encourage this healthy and wonderful way of bonding and eating simultaneously. Now, I am by no means telling you that breastfeeding is easy. And, I can't even give you a scenario of what it'll be like (if you haven't already done it...) since not only is every mama different, but every baby is different, too!

I thought I'd combine one of my favorite link-ups with a question I get often, "What are my favorite breastfeeding products?" In an effort to show a little of my love for nursing my little ones and to show my support for WBW, albeit somewhat late, here are 5 of my absolutely favorite products for helping to make your breastfeeding experience better.

{1.}

Bamboobies Super Soft Nursing Pads are brilliant. I didn't have them the first time around and man, I missed out. They are my favorite favorite breastfeeding item.
They're thin, so they don't show under clothing. They actually absorb, so if you overproduce like I did, you aren't changing your nursing pads every 12 minutes. ANNND they're hearts. This is one of the few things I want when we have Baby 3. More Bamboobies.
Oh, and you'll have to get over the name. It's weird at first, or at least I thought so. But SO worth it.
Also, yes the price is a bit high, but the soft bamboo goodness is the best.

If I haven't sold you, for a very limited time, you can get a pair of Freebies, and just pay S + H.

A GOOD nursing bra is a must. I actually found my favorites to be from Target, but there are so many options out there. My only main piece of advice is for your non-sleeping bras, try them on! Make sure you actually are comfortable in them and not falling out. Also, although buying before baby sounds like you're all brilliant and super organized, I found it best to only buy a couple to get me through the first week, and then went shopping with my newly sized boobs to get a more perfect fit.

Also Sleep Bras are the bee's knees in that first week or two of learning to nurse your little one, especially with the added engorgement and all that fun stuff.

I think the Milkies Milk-Saver Breast Milk Collector might perhaps be one of the oddest breastfeeding products out there. Once again, one of those things I didn't have first time around. If you plan to offer your baby breastmilk in a bottle at some point, this is for you. Or if you want to mix it into their solid foods.

Basically you put it on one side whilst you nurse from the other. In the first month or two of breastfeeding an infant, I leak constantly and most especially from the opposite side when feeding. This solved that by saving that leaking side in the MilkSaver. You then just pour it into a container or Milk Storage Bags to save or freeze for later.

For another set of nursing pads to have in your stock, add Lilypadz Reuseable Nursing Pads. They basically are a silicone suction cup. I didn't find these so helpful in the early months when I was super leaking since they don't stick if they get too wet. But once I was 3 or 4 months postpartum they were great for wearing for nicer occasions. Around the house, I'm still a Bamboobie girl, but I do love Lilypadz for wedding, date nights, and the like.

These aren't specifically termed as breastfeeding products, but it's no secret that aden + anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets are one of my all-around all-time favorite baby items. There exist all these cute nursing covers (i.e. Hooter Hiders Cotton Nursing Cover), but if you have babies like mine who just weren't into covering up, those make no sense. With the giant A + A swaddlers, you can throw it over your shoulder to cover up quick while baba latches on, and then it can serve as a cuddle blanket whilst baby nurses if he/she isn't into modesty.

What would you add to this list? What are some of your fave breastfeeding products? Please share in the comments!

Happy Breastfeeding e'rybody!

  1. I love using nursing pillows in the earlier days (Especially since I've had two cesareans. They really help out a lot!). Also, since I have had bad cases of thrush with both boys (I really need to write about this!) disposable nursing pads (lansinoh brand) have been great. Oh, and Mother Earth Nipple Cream. :) Haha, this is all I can think of off the top of my head. Great list!

    1. Awesome add-ons! What nursing pillow do you use? Do you have a favorite? I had a Boppy, but just didn't love it.
      And yes, you should write about thrush and how you dealt - I haven't had to face that one yet, but I know so many mamas have. Thanks for sharing!
