Crockpot Apple Butter [Recipe]

So after a long hiatus from the blog, I finally have some plans for posting. First up, our one and only canning adventure this autumn has been apple butter. I thought I'd share with you the recipe I followed. You can easily halve this recipe if you don't want to make as much.

Crockpot Apple Butter
Yields approx. 6 pints

4 cups thick applesauce
4 cups filtered water
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Dash ground cloves

Blend (or process) applesauce, adding water as you do so. Puree until completely smooth.

Pour into crockpot. Add spices. Stir well.

Cook on low for at least 6-7 hours until it's thickened and turned a carmel-y brown color. If you choose to cook longer, wait to add the spices until you only have 6 hours left.

If canning: fill clean jars with hot apple butter. Process in hot water bath for 20 minutes. I used half pint jars, and they are the perfect size to enjoy without wasting.
